TCTSY Trauma Sensitive Yoga


TCTSY Trauma Sensitive Yoga is the world’s first and only yoga-based intervention for complex trauma and PTSD that has been found to be as effective as talk therapy through twenty years of original research. With 800 actively certified facilitators in over 50 nations & territories, TCTSY strives to be a cross-cultural model for body-based treatment.

This self-guided 5-hour online course, led by CFTE Co-Directors and TCTSY Co-Creators Dave Emerson, YACEP, and Jenn Turner, LMHC, offers an engaging overview of trauma and the TCTSY model of Trauma Sensitive Yoga. Designed for students, teachers, clinicians, and survivors, it covers key research, theories, and practical techniques to integrate TCTSY principles into your life, classes, or clinical practice as a healing tool for trauma.

This 20-hour training introduces the core concepts and applications of TCTSY Trauma-Sensitive Yoga. Designed for yoga teachers, social workers, educators, mental health professionals, and other service providers, this training is offered year-round, online and in-person, and in multiple languages through licensed trainers worldwide. Completion is a prerequisite for applying to the Certification Program.

CECs: Valid for 20 CECs with Yoga Alliance, 18 CECs with International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), and 4 CECs with National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB).

The 300-hour TCTSY Trauma Sensitive Yoga Certification Program is designed for yoga professionals, mental health practitioners, healthcare providers, and community workers supporting individuals and communities impacted by complex trauma. Offered fully online from September to March, the program includes cohorts based on major time zones—North America, Europe, and Australasia—and is also available entirely in Spanish. Applications open January 15th and are accepted on a rolling basis until cohorts are filled.

CECs: Valid as a 300-hour training with Yoga Alliance. Awaiting approval for Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) continuing education credits.

Trauma Informed Weight Lifting


TIWL explores the power of weight lifting to heal by establishing an evidence base for weight lifting as an adjunctive treatment for trauma, and by providing education and support to the weight lifting community.

This low-cost and accessible 75 minute introductory program is designed for anyone interested in learning more about the who we are, what we do, the impact of trauma, and benefits of Trauma Informed Weight Lifting. This program is appropriate for all professions.

This 15-hour training is ideal for trainers, coaches, physical therapists, movement practitioners, and mental health professionals exploring the connection between trauma and weightlifting. It provides foundational insights and practical tools to integrate these principles into their practice. The training is offered online and in-person 2-3 times per year.

CECs: Valid for 1.5 CECs with National Association of Sports Medicine (NASM).

Trauma Informed Improv & Play

TIIP is therapeutic methodology designed to blend trauma informed practices with the healing capacity of embodied play and the whole-body nature of improvisational theatre (or improv) for the treatment of complex trauma.

Trauma informed improv and play (TIIP) is a new framework that combines components of body-first therapy with improvisation and experiential activities. This training provides an overview of the impact of trauma and methods for group-based experiential activities with a trauma-informed approach.

CECs: Valid for 1 CEC with the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association (MaMHCA) and 1 CEC with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Social Work Registration.

TIME is designed for both individuals and professionals. It’s ideal for anyone seeking to understand their food and body story more deeply, as well as practitioners—such as therapists, dietitians, coaches, and wellness providers—who want to bring a trauma-informed, mindfulness-based lens to their work.

This trauma-informed framework supports culturally responsive leadership and organizational change by integrating social justice principles through an embodied approach. Focusing on leadership, power dynamics, oppression, culture change, relationships, and movement, the model is delivered in three phases: Assessment, Education, and Integration with Ongoing Consultation, ensuring meaningful and lasting transformation.
